How old are you when you start doing this comic book?

Jan 5, 1:53AM EST0

long story short 11, and Comic is how I learned to read.  The longer version goes into how the NYC BOred of ED thought I was retarded and their words and wanted me to go into the special programs but turned out I was dyslexic.  The world of X-Men inspired me to read and forever will I owe comic books for that

When I look at Written Sins you are always promoting other people's work, what inspired you to start a network that showcases indie books?

Jan 2, 12:33AM EST0

Well it all started through the inspiration of Buddy Scalea,  who runs ComicBookSchool.com,  doing a Panel at NYCC called creator connection and it started as a facebook group.

However after I got hurt an had to much free time to debate politics and be too active online I knew I needed an outlet, but it had to be a positive one.  You see my injury is affected by stress, and I need something that would make me feel able to be helpful.  It became my therapy.   I knew there needed to be a site that helped all creators and allowed all to be treated with the same respect, and that what we do.  No matter your level WrittenSiNs.com will help you promote your project with very little obvious limitations.

How do we determine the value of a comic book?

Dec 28, 3:03AM EST0

I Don't the fans do. My Job is to give them the best quality product I can, the rest is up to the readers and my hope of making them a fan.

Have you set up your own comics gallery?

Dec 27, 1:58PM EST0

I have a Web site Call MrAndersin.com that is close to as a gallery I have.  But writtenSiNs.com cover all my stuff as well.   As a Writer, I am not sure a gallery is where I belong.

Comic books are wide and varied mediums. What differs indie from mainstream comics?

Dec 27, 11:35AM EST0

The most obvious answer is deep pockets of mainstream and for Indie not having to worry about stockholders.  The truth is IIndie Creators have the ability to tell stories the way the creator envisions them without heavy oversight.  Indie comic empower the Readers and fans and takes the power away from the Corporate reboot culture

Is there a specific guideline for writing comics in each genre?

Dec 27, 8:09AM EST0

As smart person than me would talk about structure and it rigid forms.  I am a creator and since this, a question for me the guidelines for all stories are the same.  Write a story that feels complete even if you leave it on a cliff, and make sure reader won't feel its a waste of their time to read it.

Now as for complete it needs to have a character(s) or objects to follow and a story must spring up around them, and that story must have a point to it then the reader can grab on to.  Is this a mystery is it a love story.   yes, it can have many threads but it needs at least one.  And finally, it has to be in some way fun to read.  the Genre changes what makes it fun, horror it about creeping a person out, the mystery is about keeping your wheels turning and a well-told romance love story leave you a bit jealous and wanting that kind of relationship.

Storytelling is all about captivating your reader or watcher and making them always want more.

Guidelines change those truths don't.

Which is more difficult to do - a drawing done in computer software or in paperwork?

Dec 27, 4:42AM EST0

Depends on the artist.  I am a credited artist but I suck.  and that ok I know I am not the best and as a Writer, I am ok with that.  But I do letter and make promo pieces adjust colors and set up PDF's all need a computer.   I can take a drawing I did by hand and improve it with a computer.  I know an artist Criss Madd who does everything by hand. He only uses a computer to scan his art.  But it is still lettered and Colored via computer.  So Difficult comes down to your talent and comfort as an artist but we live in a time where we need computers to create comics so they are needed.

What marketing strategy did you apply to generate sales?

Dec 26, 1:03PM EST0

Kickstarter and WrittenSiNs.com.  Facebook is not what it once was.  In 2017 we watched social media be monetized.

With that said the best strategy is in-person at cons or doing amazing things like AMA or interviews helps a lot. My job as a creator is to get people to believe in me as a creator and grow a fan base.  By answering questions and getting people to see who I am what  I believe causes respect for me to grow about me and inspires reader to want to follow me.  He is a perfect example.  I Co-created Fetish Babies which is a story of a young woman's journey through the New York City fetish Underground on a quest to understand her fetish for Bondage.  Now the title and even topic is very controversial. The point is to show that people with fetishes are regular humans and to put humanity into the World of Fetish. If I wasn't who I was I know support for it would have been far less.  But when you realize I wrote a children's book created a free site for Indie Comic Creators to help them for free call WrittenSiNs.com  and my constant online presence of helping others, all that together makes people open to a topic that I know they might not have ever taken seriously because I wrote it.  All of who I am has allowed me to open the door to new ideas for my fans and reader because of the person I am.

So the Best Strategy is to be a genuine and good person.  build a solid rep and always be humble.  Don't just promote your self but become an advocate for Indie Comics like me

What inspires you to create comic books?

Dec 26, 2:00AM EST0

To be honest it's more like being Haunted by ideas and that something inside you won't let you not tell the stories inside your head. I was very sucessfull manger  for years but Every day all I wanted to do was write down these stories I created every day in my head. To me I feel haunted by my stories and the only release these idea is to create and make them into comics and books.

The comic industry is currently thriving. How's the competition in your location?

Dec 26, 1:24AM EST0

Comic book Movie are Thriving the industry is struggling. while Indie Comic has seen tremendous growth DC and Marvel are suffering.

As for competition truthfully I only compete with myself.  You see we aren't all writing the same type of stories and my stories are very unique. As such I am my own competition as I must make sure I produce the best Comic I can.  Other creators might sell better than me but they aren't telling the same story as me, and over time I might sell better. It's not a race it is not a competition, its art.  Art takes time to build a fan base and then you compete with your older self to keep your fan base

Jan 1, 4:04PM EST0

Do you have personal collections of different comic books?

Dec 25, 11:25PM EST0

I have Honestly 100's of indie comics and thousands of comics. I am dyslexia and without comics and my need to understand the story at age 13 where I could barely read and not really at all.  Comic inspired me to read and explore more.  I read things I wrote when I was younger and before comics and I have no clue how no one knew I was dyslexic, but I went untreated for most of my life till comics.  Comic gave me my future.

Jan 1, 4:06PM EST0

What makes your comic book interesting?

Dec 25, 7:03PM EST0

One about Fetish and is an honest telling of what it is to have a fetish

one is about Monsters who are humans misrepresented by the media and Hollywood

and the other (new ones coming soon) is a story of my Son and how being a Creator will effect and mold as a human growing up going ot cons with me.

Those to me are very original and interesting ideas that If I saw I would want to read.  And that what I do, I make comic I know I would like. Last time I checked quickly I had over 100 stories written just sitting on a drive. The books I made and continue to make are the ones I find most interesting and Hope readers like you agree with me.

Jan 1, 4:03PM EST0

Did you get the chance to work with high profile personalities and creators like Marvel Comics for example?

Dec 25, 5:17PM EST0

not yet and to be honest it would have to be the right fit for me.  I would love to write Batman but only if I could do it in my own way.

Jan 1, 4:00PM EST0

The graphic design and title of your online web is a bit striking. How does your family feel about it?

Dec 24, 11:33AM EST0

You would have to ask them.  The site is a reflection of me through light and dark themes. We have a reaper as mascot but he helps bring new worlds to life via Indie Comics.  And the idea of Sins is just a basic fact, all stories are about  a sin.

That why we have the Name WrittenSiNs.com because without a sin you have no story

Jan 1, 3:59PM EST0

Do you include political issues in your storyline?

Dec 24, 3:56AM EST0

Not Directly.  I won't use current event but I will political ideas if the story calls for it, but I stay basic.  an example I use corporate greed a lot.  but I won't talk about a president or a bill directly but might be vague reference and idea from the current government.  I wrote a book that kinda predicted all the stuff we are seeing now only its 10 years early. I saw a lot of this coming.  But If i updated I wouldn't change things from now to remold the story because its not our job to talk directly about political but merely address the universal points and allow the reader to view them on a basic level and do with it what they will.

I am comic book creator I am not a Political Commentator. I actually try to not share opinions publicly anymore as to not take sides.

Is there a difference between a comic book and a graphic novel?

Dec 23, 2:18PM EST0

Truthfully the real difference is page count.  some will also say it tells a full story but that not always true. sometimes it tells many different stories. to me its all about page count.  Most comic books that are ongoing become a graphic novel often referred to as a Trade

Jan 1, 3:49PM EST0

Do you prefer to work alone or with a team?

Dec 23, 10:50AM EST0

Making Comic is a team thing. Even if the Team is you and an editor you need to have outside eyes to guide you.  Doing it all alone often is a recipe for disaster.
